Jalapeño Popper Rangoons

    The inspiration for this recipe comes from the classic jalapeño popper, a beloved appetizer known for its creamy filling and spicy kick. Ingredients:

  • 1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup diced jalapeños (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 tablespoon ranch seasoning (optional)
  • 8 slices cooked bacon, crumbled (optional)
  • 20-24 wonton wrappers
  • 1 egg, beaten (for sealing wontons)
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Sweet chili sauce, for dipping (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, cheddar cheese, diced jalapeños, and ranch seasoning (if using).
    • Stir in the crumbled bacon (if using). Mix well.
  2. Assemble the Rangoons:

    • Lay out a wonton wrapper.
    • Place about 1-2 teaspoons of the jalapeño popper filling in the center of the wrapper.
    • Moisten the edges of the wonton wrapper with a little of the beaten egg.
    • Fold the wonton wrapper in half diagonally to form a triangle. Press the edges firmly to seal.
  3. Fry the Rangoons:

    • Heat about 1-2 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or deep skillet to 375°F (190°C).
    • Carefully add the rangoons in batches (don't overcrowd the pot) and fry for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
    • Remove the rangoons with a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  4. Serve:

    • Serve the Jalapeño Popper Rangoons hot.
    • They are delicious on their own, but you can also serve them with sweet chili sauce for dipping.
